Autism is a neurobiological disorder that causes a life-long developmental disability. It is marked by abnormal or impaired development in social interaction, communication, and restricted interests and activities. The degree of severity ranges from mild to severe and varies greatly from one individual to another. Region 15 serves professionals and families working with children with autism in school, home, and community settings. Staff development and technical assistance are available to support districts and families in developing programs that lead to success for the child with autism. Workshops are designed to address the full spectrum of needs of both the district and child. On-site assistance is provided at the school, home, and community setting to implement programs to insure success for the child. Region 15 also provides support in state compliance and legal issues, in-home and parent training, and extended educational year programming. | |
