Services to students with visual impairments in Region XV is designed to provide quality services which will maximize achievement of students ages 0-21. These services are provided through programming in the areas of instruction, consultation, transition, and orientation and mobility in the least restrictive environment. Services for students with visual impairments are provided through opportunities for interagency coordination with DARS Blind Division, Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI), Community Resources Coordination Groups (CRCG), West Texas Lighthouse for the Blind, and Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) programs.
 

ORIENTATION & MOBILITY

ORIENTATION
The ability to know where one is, where one needs to go,
and the correct use of environmental clues to get there,
even if one becomes disoriented.

MOBILITY
The skills used to travel safely and independently
within ones environment.

THE O&M SPECIALIST
A professional who teaches the blind and partially sighted
how to meet their travel needs regardless of age
and additional handicaps.

SERVICES PROVIDED
An individual program is designed and implemented on
a one to one basis which may include one or more
of the following: evaluation, concept training,
vision training when appropriate, pre-cane training,
indoor travel skills, outdoor travel skills,
low vision aid training when appropriate,
use of public transportation,
and use of electronic aids if appropriate.
