CLOUD SEEDING

 

 

INTRODUCTION

   

    Will you have enough water to swim, water ski, wash you car this summer?  How do we increase the water in our area to accomplish all of these tasks and be able to have enough left to drink?  One way this can be accomplished in West Texas is by cloud seeding.

 

TASK

You will be one of the four members of a cloud seeding team in our area that will help determine if cloud seeding is in our best interest.  It is your job to convince the citizens of West Texas that cloud seeding is a cost effective way to increase our water supply.  You will inform the public about the history, process, economics, and the effects (both pro and con) of cloud seeding.

 

    Week 1:

        Gather information and compile list of possible people to interview.

        Schedule field trips.

 

    Week 2:

        Conduct interviews/field trips

        Gather information from other sources, i.e. Internet, books, magazines,

newspapers, etc.

 

    Week 3:

        Compile information into a finished product.

 

   Products:

        These products must include at least 2 of the following:

        Oral presentation

        Written report

        Brochure

        Power Point presentation

        News broadcast

        Compare and contrast chart

   

PROCESS

 

    The cloud seeding team will consist of four members.  Each member will have a specific responsibility to collect information about cloud seeding.  The team will consist of a historian, economist, politician and geographer.

 

HISTORIAN

 

The historian will be responsible for who, what, when, where and how of cloud seeding in general and in West Texas.

 

ECONOMIST

 

The economist will be responsible for the cost and economic benefits of cloud seeding in West Texas.

 

POLITICIAN

 

The politician will be responsible for who to contact about cloud seeding, government support available, and success or downfall of previous projects.

GEOGRAPHER

 

The geographer will be responsible for maps, graphs, tables and other illustrations of West Texas as well as the best place for launching the program.
