How does Technology and/or Computers affect Society Today?

Introduction

Computers play an important role in society today. In this project, you will explore the role of computers in society today and their impact on everyday life in America. You will answer the following questions:

How do they affect you?

Can you live by the standards you are accustomed to without the use of computers?

Give specific examples of how computers enhance your quality of life.

Task

Your task will be to give specific support for or against the use of computers in everyday life. Conflicting views within the group are allowed as long both views are clearly stated. Each group will give an oral report in conjunction with PowerPoint.

Process

Students will be broken up into groups of two or three with each member of the group researching and developing a specific argument for/against technology use. All information used in your support will be in written form using Microsoft Word. Pictures or GIFS may used in moderation for extra points. Each member of the group will be called upon during the presentation to give his/her support for their decision.

Evaluation

A multimedia rubric will be accessed online and the teacher will pair each student. Each student will know what is expected from them as individuals as well as a group. Lack of effort or inaccurate information by an individual student will not affect the grade of the rest of the group. Only that individual will receive a low grade.

Conclusion

Technology and computers as affected the “American” way of life for some time. Through in depth research and group discussion, each student should have a better understanding of how computers affect everyday life.
