Introduction

Tired of homework?  Now, it is your turn to have some fun and take control.  You are going on a vacation of a lifetime!  There’s only one catch.  You only have $1000 to spend so budget wisely.  Can you have that dream come true? How far can you stretch your money and have the time of your life?

Task

First, you and your friend must decide when to go.  After researching for the best vacation package, then you then must decide what you will do.  After food, entertainment, gifts, and extras are considered, make a spreadsheet to display the total amount for the entire trip. (Remember, it cannot go over $1000.)

Process

  1. You and your partner must first set a date when to go.
  2. After deciding on a date, both individuals will research for the best price on airfare, hotel, and length of stay. Decide if a travel agency or Internet is best. Consider roundtrip airfare, time of airfare, quality of hotel, and inclusive package deals.
  3. Together, write in a notebook planning when to leave for the airport, where to stay, and estimate gas, food, and hotel for the night before flight.
  4. Compare cost between renting a car in Mexico and using a taxi.
  5. Each individual will make a schedule of tour activities for the week. Research the types of activities, time, and cost of each. Then as partners, decide the activities that suit both.
  6. In partners, make a spreadsheet for the total cost of the entire trip. (Adjust if over $1000)
  7. With the money left over, make a list of people to buy gifts for.
  8. You and your partner will present your travel plans and budget to the class.

Evaluation

You and your partner will be evaluated on collaborative work skills and presentation.
