Introduction

 

The Civil War was a very tumultuous period in American history. This WebQuest will help you gain an understanding of what was happening to our country at that time.

 

The Task

 

You will be a person that lived during the time of the Civil War.  You will be divided into teacher assigned groups. Along with your group members, it will be your job to label a map of the United States in 1861, prepare a speech stating the opinions of your character, and write a summary including the facts you have learned about the Civil War. 

 

Process

 

Your group consists of these four people:

a fifteen year old male child at home

a thirty year old black female

a twenty-one year old male soldier

President of your country


 


Choose your role.

 

Your responsibilities will be:

·       Label a U.S. map indicating the states involved in the war

·       Color Northern states blue, Southern states gray, border states orange

·       Research what your character’s position/duty was during the war

·       Prepare and present a one minute speech explaining your character’s feelings and opinions at the beginning of the war

·       Write a one to two page summary of facts learned during your WebQuest (include a list of sources used)
